MSDW on Korea deal: • CIEN announced a large contract with Korea Telecom. Initials shipments of under $5MM should be booked in C4Q00. We believe the total contract is worth tens of millions over a multi-year period. • We believe its a good win for CIEN. We believe CIEN beat Lucent (LU-$31-SB), Nortel (NT-$67- O), Sorrento Networks, and Ericsson (ERICY-$17-O, covered by A. Dean) to win this contract. • We believe Gigabit Ethernet is becoming important. We believe CIEN’s ability to offer GigE interfaces and an upgrade path to 10 Gb/s per channel were key success factors.
