NTAP--Network Appliance Delivers Highly Scalable Data Storage Solution to National Instruments NetApp Filer Optimizes Development and Production Environments, Minimizes Downtime SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 26, 2000--Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ:NTAP - news), a leading provider of network-attached data access and content management solutions, today announced that National Instruments, a leading supplier of hardware and software for computer-based measurement and automation solutions, has selected Network Appliance as a provider of corporate data storage and management solutions. NI selected Network Appliance(TM) network storage solutions to minimize downtime, and ensure high data availability and scalability for both their development process and production environment.
NI is using the NetApp® filers to store data for its global Oracle® databases, requiring 24x7 up-time and availability. NI has deployed multiple NetApp F760 filers, the most feature-rich, mid-range file server available, which can scale from 50GB up to multiple terabytes. The filers are deployed using Snapshot(TM) and SnapRestore(TM), which optimize database performance and reduce downtime. Additionally the WAFL(TM) file system on all the NetApp filers eliminates the need to manually administer disk tuning and layout, allowing NI to easily increase storage capacity while decreasing administrative overhead.
``The NetApp storage solutions are easy to install, easy to maintain, minimize downtime otherwise associated with locally attached disks, and provide unique and new flexibility in our data center,'' said Alan Russi, Director of Distributed Systems at NI. ``We chose NetApp filers because we need increased storage from devices that perform very well with little or no administration.''
``The combination of NetApp storage appliances and Oracle databases is enabling NI to meet aggressive performance and availability goals,'' said Mark Santora, senior vice president of marketing at Network Appliance. ``We are pleased that our storage solutions help NI to streamline both the development and production environments, thus ensuring high quality development processes critical to their business.''
