While most fund yearends tend to be in September, there are some in October as well. September window dressing tends to be more pronounced than other quarters in recent years as some managers make an attempt at tax efficiency.

If as you stated, everyone knew that window dressing only happened on the last 2 days of the month, then it would be to my advantage to sell on the 3rd last day of the month. That philosophy leads to selling throughout the month.

Similarly, given that everyone knows that the fund managers will be spending their cash during the first couple days of October, it behooves one to get back in before the end of September.

... and lo and behold, the last couple days of the quarter have been quite strong this year. And I fully expect that trend to exaggerate as it becomes more widely recognized. Maybe we'll see strong buying during the last 3 days this quarter. <g>
