I am not an economist, but how would paying off debt would have a negative impact on world equity markets? I do not think so. World equity markets are subject to many other variables that could be adjusted. Besides paying of debt will not require you to service the debt in terms of interest payments. That is the most prudent way to do it.

Heck, even I like the tax cut and I stand to gain a lot from it. Under Dubya's plan, I had not paid enough taxes in the past when my income was very low a couple of years ago. Now that it is higher and projected to go higher, I stand to benefit the most as I will be getting higher refunds by virtue of the fact that I am earning higher. So that in itself is unfair to people say who were earning higher a couple of years ago and now are likely to earn lesser in future for whatever reason or say if one is retiring in next few years. All things have not been thought through and it is an unfair process. Paying of debt is the fair process where all Americans will be equally benefited.
