All people should guard against government misuse of power. Our constitution specifically provides limits so we don't become a police state. Whether it's the FBI at Ruby Ridge, BATF at Waco, the IRS, or the Seattle police beating back left wing protestors, the people have legitimate reason to keep vigilant.

However, most people, especially conservatives, agree that law enforcement agencies provide a vital service.
