Ted, I have no idea on when the 870 started. The big thing with the P4 is the shrink to .13um process; the changed pinout and new chipsets are secondary to that, and any really high volume production is probably dependent on that too. Unless they set the price quite high, it doesn't make a lot of sense for Intel to be producing 1 p4 in place of 3-5 cumines in high volume, and it doesn't make a lot of sense to build more .18um capacity while they're pushing hard for .13um. We also know that with the cumine being carried over to .13um, Intel is hedging its bets.

So you think there will not be volume with P4 until Intel gets to .13um? Dan, all their fabs won't be completely to .18um until the end of this year if they are on schedule. That means they probably won't be getting to .13um at least for another year.

I don't think they will wait that long to produce volume P4. How difficult would it be to support P4's at .18um and .13um? If its a reasonable approach, then that's how they will get volume.
