INTC--Intel Outlines Voice-enabled Internet Technologies for the e-Business Data Center

New Voice Portal Platform, Expansion of Intel® NetStructure(TM) Product Line Detailed at N+I Show

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 26, 2000-- In a keynote speech here today, John Miner, vice president and general manager of Intel Corporation's Communications Products Group, highlighted that the rapid convergence of voice and data networks is being driven by the move to e-Business and the addition of voice capabilities to the online experience. In his address, Miner also announced key new technology building blocks for accessing Web sites using speech commands.

The new products comprise a voice portal capability which provides the first standardized platform for speech enabled application development in the Internet-based voice services. The new platform, which is already being used by leading service providers such as Telera, Tellme and Quack.com, is based on Intel architecture servers with Intel DSP (Digital Signal Processing) cards, continuous speech processing and speech recognition software.

``Companies are beginning to deploy Internet-based voice applications such as voice portals in the e-Business infrastructure to enhance, personalize and automate online transactions,'' said Miner. ``Intel is paving the way with cost-effective, standards-based solutions such as our voice portal platform, which are stimulating innovative applications that provide powerful speech capabilities for the Internet.''

Along with SpeechWorks, a leading provider of voice-enabled solutions for the Internet, Miner demonstrated how businesses today are taking advantage of Intel technology to offer telephone access to the Web.

Miner also discussed how the rush to e-Business is driving the need for new infrastructure solutions and how innovative products from the Intel® NetStructure(TM) product line are enhancing e-Business by enabling faster and more reliable content delivery and transaction execution. During the address, he demonstrated tools that simplify Web hosting, as well as e-Commerce solutions designed for hosting service providers. Verio, a leading hosting service provider, showed how Intel NetStructure products are being used to scale and add new e-Business services to their customers without interrupting their existing computing infrastructure.

``With the Intel NetStructure products, we are focused on delivering high-performance, best-in-class solutions and services to emerging e-Businesses. We continue to aggressively grow the Intel NetStructure product line to enable hosting service providers, application service providers and companies hosting their own e-Businesses to create new value added services for their customers,'' said Miner.

Over the past few weeks, Intel has expanded this product line with a set of new products as well as enhancements to existing products. These include hosting, storefront and management appliances, and virtual private networking (VPN) products.

``Intel is focused on providing innovative products that enable a faster, more reliable, and more accessible Internet. Our approach to e-Business will help companies increase efficiency and reach while lowering costs,'' concluded Miner.

Intel, the world's largest chip maker, is also a leading manufacturer of computer, networking and communications products. Additional information about Intel is available at www.intel.com/pressroom.
