(response to PM) on the Porch w/ the thought that others might enjoy this tale... I'm spending more and more time away from the computer and it feels...GOOD! 'I fee-e-e-l good, da da da da da da da' The weather's turned cool the past few days and I always feel more energetic without the oppressive heat and humidity, and have the urge to do ANYTHING outside. I'm spending alot of time w/new horse. With him being a 3 yr. old, I have to ingrain in his little pea-sized brain that I am the 'leader'. I believe in using lots of patience when training a young animal- it pays off later. I hear ya re: raccoons in the attic- Though I haven't had raccoons in the attic, I have had a family of flying squirrels- they do alot of damage, too... It was another house (another life; I was married then) and we thought there were mice in the attic. Put traps and poison out, but couldn't seem to be rid of them. We could hear them scurrying in the porch roof at times as well as the attic, so one day... My ex took the grill off one of the porch ventilation openings, put a piece of cheese on the edge of the opening w/a straight pin, and sat down in the porch rocker w/ his '22'. He waited...and waited... Finally there was movement at the opening, first a head, then the body of the animal. Watching the furry imp move across the opening, Danny exclaimed (at a whisper), 'Look at the size of the NUTS on that sucker!'. I looked and sure enough, they were VERY LARGE for a mouse. Imminently, Danny got off a shot at the little buggar. Damn good shooting. I just knew he was going to blow a hole into the roof! Turned out it was a flying squirrel. Too bad we had to kill them, such interesting creatures, and beautiful as well. But they were causing sleepless nights...as well as extensive damage to the house. Maybe that's where my sleep problems originated :o) Also had BIG problems w/beavers at the same property...but that's another story. Out to run in the woods now, and at noon my soon-to-be neighbor has invited me to a 'champagne celebration ground-breaking' for their new house. Guess I won't be worth a damn this afternoon! Hope your day will be bright, jesse
