I'll have to remember THAT quote!

I owned OEI from last fall to early summer. Sold it due to nonperformance. It's still where I sold it, actually a little lower. For some reason the funds simply don't like OEI. Not sure why as I could find nothing to dislike.

BeachBum. OEI is a good outfit.

Quite a few posters here have or have had positions and done well with OEI during the past 18 months.

Am not following it, right now, so will defer to those who are current with their information and outlook on it.

Best

I would agree that OEI has been frustrating over the past year. It always seems it should be heading higher than it does. Having said that, I got back into OEI yesterday at 14 with the intent that I'll trade it with modest expectations. It has always given me clear signals to buy and sell which I often ignored thinking "it MUST go higher"... It's now in my list of stocks I buy so I can sell them, not marry them.

BB,
OEI is my second largest holding in the energy sector behind OIL. I believe there are two factors holding the stock back: 1. They have a lot of production hedged at very low prices 2. Their production has been falling
That said, I like the value. It is trading a nice cash flow multiple and they have executed well on paying down debt. They have two large discoveries in the GOM (Nansen and Boomvang) that will begin production in early 2002. Also and most important to me is they are drilling two or three exploratory wells in the next few months that could possibly be huge.
Good luck,
Sportsman

BeachBum:

So far OEI is almost a double for me, but it sure is lazy on the upside and has taken some odd and quick dips that seem unrelated to anything. I have been through their annual and quarterly reports. Things look clean there. Production is down a bit but prices more than made up for that. They do have Boomvang and another field in the GOM coming along. They are active offshore Africa and that looks promising from all I have read. They did have a disappointing bust off Pakistan not long ago.

They should read this board to get a better handle on their hedging strategy which has been clumsy, at best. Some have suggested that their hedging may have been in order to comply with loan documents.

You need not worry about nobody owning OEI. Since you
just came back recently you are not aware of the postings
of the last 6 months.

I suspect many are very long OEI, myself included.
