Well, things were rocky, to be sure. A lot depends on how one reacted to the impeachment controversy, and how much one blamed him. I honestly believe that Starr had to pursue it, once it came to his attention, and that once the situation was confirmed by the dress, there was nothing else to do but impeach Clinton. I also believe that it was not a plot of the leadership, but rather that it was a hot potato they were not sure how to handle, and therefore left it up to Hyde. We couldn't just give the guy a pass. May as well say that everyone has a license to commit perjury in divorce proceedings and harassment suits. May as well say that those who do follow the law are chumps, when even the President has contempt. May as well say that it doesn't matter how reckless and dishonorable the President behaves, as long as the market is chugging along.........
