Damn straight for raising taxes. The Reagan-Bush legacy was a deficit of over $400B per year (and that was not counting the add'l 100s of billions that went to bail out S&Ls in Texas and Southwest.) At the risk of his presidency, Clinton and Dems showed the courage to pass a "stimulus package" which was admittedly a thinly veiled tax raise. Because of that, Democrats lost control of Congress, Newt ascended etc. etc. but we have since enjoyed a fiscally sound ship that has led to an unprecedented economic boom (the largest post-war expansion) and federal budget surpluses as far as the eye can see. Give credit where credit is due. Even Greenspan has stated that the political courage to deal with the deficit early on in the administration yielded the boom-time we have had over the last 7 years. Republicans just aren't willing to admit that there are good times to raise taxes, and there are bad times to raise taxes. Similarly, there are good times to cut taxes, and there are bad times to raise taxes. Anyone who has bothered to listen to Greenspan for the last couple of years knows that he absolutely does not believe that a tax cut would be a good idea right now because it would ignite inflation and explode the federal budget.
