Every local incumbent competes, as does nxlk and, to lesser extent, artt. So does RCN and locals bringing in fiber--ala VZ. However, I agree with fundamental premise that glut in backbone, even if true (which I do not believe) does not alleviate last mile bottleneck. WCII does. How about MCLD and TWTC? among others.
Oh yeah--TGNT....ALLGX, ...
Oh yeah--WCOM is selling DSL and MMDS wireless internet access to small businesses--another WCII competitor; FON is gearing up MMDS as well, right? DSL is being marketed as internet access for businesses, so these services compete with WCII as well.
