They added it at the close on Friday. Their system for making these calls is based on the following...

Zacks #1 Ranked Stocks Philosophy
The Zacks Rank is one of the most powerful timeliness indicators for a stock's performance over the next 1 to 3 months. The Zacks Rank was developed in 1980 and since that time the Zacks #1 Ranked stocks have produced a return which is double the rate of the S&P 500 (see the Performance section for exact details.)
Every night the Zacks Rank process is run on the universe of 6000 stocks followed by the brokerage analyst community. The stocks are then classified with a Zacks Rank between 1 and 5. (1=Strong Buy, 2=Moderate Buy, 3=Hold, 4=Moderate Sell, 5=Strong Sell). Note that only 5% of the stock universe (approx. 300 stocks) will be given a Zacks Rank of 1 at any given time.

These rankings are based on a time-tested quantitative process, which uses four measures related to earnings estimate revisions.

Agreement: Extent to which all brokerage analysts are revising their EPS estimates in the same direction. The more analysts revising the better.

Magnitude: Size of recent changes in current fiscal year and next fiscal year consensus estimates. Ex. A 10% earnings estimate revision is more powerful than a 2% revision.

Upside: Deviation between the most accurate EPS estimates and the consensus. Zacks monitors the track record of almost 4,000 brokerage analysts so we know, for any company, who has been the most accurate in forecasting EPS in the past.

Surprise: Based on the last few quarterly EPS surprises. The more often they had a positive surprise in the past, the more likely they are to surprise in the future (and visa versa).

The Zacks Rank is the cornerstone of our investment philosophy. Be sure to learn all about this valuable indicator in our Education section.
