i think the stock market is too important for it NOT to happen should a sufficiently damaging decline occur. perhaps it will continue to be covert and led by private sector interests with implicit backing by the authorities. but i'm sure a contingency plan exists and the market will become a lot less 'free' when the fit hits the shan. Hong Kong has set the most recent example...
