One only has to look at the charter of this thread to get a gist of how this place works. No opinion is sacred, heck, it is like in debate class - the following is issue is being put to question, red will take Pro, and green team will take Con.

The funny thing that I actually change my beliefs regularly. Based upon new information - and new metrics, most introduced to me by others through debate or reading. This is what reason is about. I've never blamed people for flip-flops if they ultimately end up in a more morally and logically correct position. But that is highly judgmental. Sure it is. We make judgements all the time - hopefully based on logic, reason and truth.

My judgement is that we should speak the truth here. Even if I agree with you but for different reasons, I will debate you on the reasons - that's part of truth. Through each of us defending our positions TOGETHER we get to truth. Hell I'm as lost as anyone. Debate and discussion are the tools of reason and the seeking of truth.

When I saw this thread name, I knew I would like it here. I didn't expect to agree with everyone. I knew I wouldn't. But, maybe through discussion of our positions we come closer to truth. I've actually pursued areas in my life that grew out ideas that I developed with others in debate. If they are right, or have a better way, or have a more logical way to think about something, I gain from the discovery. At the very least I'll spend a minute or two reading about something that I wouldn't have otherwise from an intelligent mind.

I'd just like to thank everyone here, on all sides for the forum. This was chartered well. I like the question, and am prepared to debate it and either form a clearer conception of my belief by arguing it, or changing it to reflect new data!

If things were not relative we would see all things exactly the same, wouldn't we?

Things are always what they are. I think you meant to say that it is our perception of things that is different, or relative. One could argue that the observer is a part of the thing observed, but I don't think you meant this. My fingers often outrun my thinking; just wondering if we share that wretched fault! :)

Not a criticism, just wondering
