Ericsson starts plan for 4G technology

Ericsson, the world's biggest supplier of telecoms infrastructure, revealed on Monday it had started planning for a fourth generation of mobile phone systems, that will represent another big leap in internet connection speeds and picture quality.

Hakan Eriksson, head of research at Ericsson, said 4G could bring connection speeds up to 50 times faster than third generation networks - the first of which will be operational next year - and three dimensional visual experiences for the first time.
