I hate to update you as to the current state of affairs in the high-end server market. SUNW is an engineering hardware company. They sell servers and other hardware and have engineering these machines from the ground up to seamlessly integrate with the software.

Even if MSFT could someday manufacture Win2000 to be as stable as Solaris, they have no control over the hardware. Therefore, all the PC box makers have different configured servers. This horizontal manfacturing philosophy products inferior products to companies that are vertically integrated. One benefit of vertical integration is that it is cheaper to bring product to market.

SUNW is almost completely vertically integrated. It is much easier, faster and ultimately cheaper to design and manufacture products with this method.

SUNW has had the internet vision thing since 1982 and the whole company fully identifies with this philosophy. MSFT employees just do not think this way. There visions are two behind the crowd.

Today was to be a tremendous day for MSFT new product introductions. But take a deeper look. Solaris is better than WinDataCenter. Oracle 8i is better than SQL. ORCL application server is better than MSFT's. OS is going to be given away for free (i.e., go to RDHT).

MSFT had/has tremendous marketing but their products are not number one in any category for the internet space. This is there problem, not the DOJ.

Until they can get mindshare that there products are as good as the number one provider. Until this happens they will continue to lose marketshare and not be dominant in the future.

I am going to short MSFT, with options, the day they release earnings. My bet is that the stock is down.

We will see, Bob.
