CSCO only wanted optical system business of Pirelli and research capability. Cisco has stated that it is not interested in buying the optical component business. However, it is investing in a lot of optical startup to guarantee itself supplies of critical components. Here is the link: lightreading.com Pirelli's component business is still with the parent company and can be sold. I am not sure how bid it is though. 3 billion cash is a lot of money that corning needed to borrow. It has 1.2 billion cash last quarter. BL
