But saying that XML is great does not make any changes in the technology going forward.
You are fooling yourself.
The limiting factor is broadband.
The limiting factor is bus speed.
Give me a 32 gigabyte bus (SGI)
and a Blast my Brains out High Speed connection
and then we can start talking about how this
software stuff is going to effect web performance.


Just had to poke my nose in on this one. If you think the point of XML is web performance, you are sorely mistaken. The point is company A, which uses system X now has a simple way to communicate with company B using system Y to conduct business over the Web. It has almost nothing to do with your web browser.

Broadband? Bus speed? How about just being able to communicate?

Check out XSLT. That does make a difference.
XML with XSLT is the new ticket.
