Speaking of messaging:
Tornado Development Delivers Unified Messaging Solution to Communications ASP, Network Services.

tornadodevelopment.com
EL SEGUNDO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 25, 2000

Tornado Messenger to be Cornerstone of Network Services'
Communications Services Platform

Tornado Development, the leading provider of unified messaging (UM) technology, today announced that Communications Application Service Provider (CASP) Network Services has licensed the Tornado Messenger(TM) UM system.

As the newest addition to Tornado's line of telco, CASP, ISP, network provider and portal customers, Network Services will introduce Tornado Powered UM to its rapidly expanding subscriber base.

Tornado Messenger gives end-users global access to all of their e-mail, voice mail, fax and pager messages from the public switched telephone network (PSTN), Internet or wireless network. Users can access their messages with any device, including telephones, personal and laptop computers, e-mail clients, Web browsers, wireless handsets, and personal digital assistants (PDAs).

Based in El Segundo, California, Network Services is positioned for leadership in the rapidly expanding CASP sector, which US Bancorp Piper Jaffray predicts will generate $7.2 billion by 2003. The company provides a platform for delivering and consolidating high-demand communications services, origination and termination of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) traffic, wireless notifications and delivery of personalized content. Network Services' target market includes wireless and wireline communications firms and ISPs. The company delivers its services through resellers, strategic partnerships and business-to-business sales.

"Unified messaging is the core technology within our platform, offering our customers the ability to deploy communications services, grow revenues and significantly improve customer retention," said Brad Scott, President of Network Services. "We have determined that Tornado Development presents the most scalable and flexible UM solution on the market."

Built from the ground up, Tornado Development's technology is specifically designed for broad deployment of unified messaging over the Internet, wireless and telecommunications networks. In contrast, other unified messaging systems have been developed from disparate legacy-based systems. Tornado Messenger's advanced design and architecture provides unsurpassed scalability and manageability, enabling communications service providers to deliver UM to millions of subscribers at a low cost of ownership.

"Tornado is pleased to be selected by Network Services, a company continually at the forefront of communications technology and dedicated to providing valued services. As the messaging communications market evolves and consumers' needs change, it becomes more important than ever for providers to market services that improve customer retention and create additional revenue streams," says Kevin Torf, Chairman and Founder of Tornado Development, Inc. "Tornado Messenger provides our customers with a customizable UM solution to expand their services and grow their businesses."

O/T- Frank - Without going into specific details on the IM business, in a general sense, you've gotta wonder what some of these people are thinking when they start to spout corporate bafflegab. Microsoft, and those arguing for a common IM standard, are now dealing with the same kind of doublespeak: they're on the wrong end of the stick they so often asked others to grab.

I suppose the AOL strategy is competition by obfuscation, and if everybody else wasn't doing it, maybe I'd be offended.

I used to sell texts to universities and colleges, some of which were supposed to teach business majors how to communicate. I've been out of publishing for many years; evidently today's best-selling texts must teach future businesspersons how to say what they don't mean [or how not to say what they do mean]...>g<
