It has been 2 years and you are still telling us nothing! What did we have to get Kennicott to commit to this project? Twin Mining results on Jackson Inlet Diamond property, Baffin Island, beyond expectations TORONTO, Oct. 18 /CNW/ - Twin Mining Corporation ("Twin Mining") (TWG - TSE) is pleased to announce that Lakefield Research Limited ("Lakefield") has completed diamond indicator mineral work from the 1.6 to 2.0 tonne samples of kimberlite collected from 13 of the 16 pipes identified on the Jackson Inlet property. In the opinion of Lakefield, the samples analysed are amongst the most promising Lakefield has seen from Canadian deposits. All the samples, collected from trenches on four pipes, where shallow overburden permitted trenching into solid kimberlite, have proven to be diamondiferous and the diamond counts are expected to be completed shortly. Diamond indicator minerals (such as certain types of chromite and garnets) are important because they are formed in the same environment as diamonds. The type and abundance of those indicator minerals give an indication of the potential quality of a diamond deposit. The analysis of chromite from the Jackson Inlet samples was very positive. Microprobe analysis shows that 46.8% of the chromites have compositions similar to that of chromite inclusions in diamonds. This exceeds the 28.1% value for chromite from Diavik's A 154 S pipe which grades approximately 4.4 carats per tonne. The analysis of garnets in the samples was again very positive. The occurrence of G10 garnets can be highly correlated to the presence of diamonds. On average 28% of the garnets in the Jackson Inlet samples were G10 garnets. This compares favourably with Diavik's A 154 S pipe where 23.5% of the garnets were G10. As part of the work completed to date by Lakefield, a remeasurement of the gem quality diamond found on the Jackson Inlet pipe, confirmed the size to be 5.4 mm and 0.768 carats. Twin Mining has staked another 40 potential kimberlite targets in the Jackson Inlet, Baffin Island area, which are scheduled to be explored during the 2001 field season. Twin Mining, in addition to exploring the TORNGAT diamond prospect on the east side of Ungava Bay in northern Québec and the Jackson Inlet diamond project on Baffin Island, also holds a gold mining project in Idaho, United States of America.
