Sylvester,

What I'm thinking here is future desktops with 4 channels, 8 channels etc... without the real estate of more RIMM slots. Is there a reason why dual channel RIMMs would not work?

Most people find the smell of burning semiconductor material offensive, and it is also rather toxic. Of course, you could keep pouring liquid nitrogen over the motherboard to keep it cool.

Why not go all the way and make a DDR DIMM?

Re: How impossible would be to see dual channel RIMMs in the future?

Actually, they've already gone you one better. There is something along the lines of a quad channel DIMM being used in most high end video cards. But since it has such a wide pipe, they decided to junk the Rambus data serialization protocol and go with a straightforward, low-latency connection.

It's called DDR.
