Scientific-Atlanta to post gain from (BKHM) stock sale

ATLANTA, Sept 27 (Reuters) - Scientific-Atlanta Inc. (NYSE:SFA - news) on Wednesday said it would have an after-tax gain of $48.8 million, or 28 cents a share, from the sale of 1.826 million shares of Bookham Technology Plc (NasdaqNM:BKHM - news).

Scientific-Atlanta, a supplier of broadband transmission networks, said the sale generated net proceeds of $82.7 million. The gain will be reported in the company's fiscal first quarter, ending Sept. 29.

The stock sale was part of a firm commitment underwriting managed by Goldman Sachs on behalf of Bookham and certain selling shareholders, Scientific-Atlanta said.

Scientific-Atlanta has a multiyear agreement for Bookham to supply Scientific-Atlanta with a range of optical components.

After the stock sale, Scientific-Atlanta will still own 4.2 million shares of Bookham, which makes components for fiber-optic telecommunications networks.
