I should have said unimplemented PC jr chip. I believe the jr chip was designed to be slower and less capable than the 8088 but it turned out to be incompatible with the software so it couldn't be used.

Several companies designed around IBM's x86 versions and paid the price when IBM couldn't deliver. Even IBM's own PC division was reluctant to use IBM's Blue Lightning chips.
