John/OT. Do admit to bashing Gore a bit too much over the wkend<G>.

But have said on the thread more recently and on Yahoo, GW ain't exactly all one could wish for either! More or less 2 lightweights. Even fair to aver that most of what we're voting for is which group of advisors/"handlers" will really run the nation for the next 4 years. JMVHO, of course. But doubt I'm the only one here to view the 2 candidates that way on this thread.

But, in response to your post, not sure it's completely accurate to say Gore's not a "player". Clinton's SPR release and heating oil reserve boondoggle won't solve any problems as you and others have pointed out. But as we've also agreed, these steps are at least IN PART a transparent effort to get Gore elected. And the release came shortly after several high profile public requests for it by Gore. That serves to make him a player in the eyes of the public.

No doubt the two honchos agreed to the public choreography before any statements were released. But my point is Gore IS definitely a player precisely for that reason. He
is closely participating in all these decisions.

From Clinton's point of view it makes sense for Gore to "play" if for no other reason than Clinton probably sees getting his VP installed as the next Pres will contribute to an otherwise, shall we say "sparse" Clinton legacy<g>.

Just trying to look at all this from a slightly different angle.
