I don't think Dell markets to the same people that buy large scale storage systems. I also think that Dell's sales force is not equipped to take on a sales campaign that heretofore was a long sales cycle. I am not sure that that sales force had the technical sales skills required to explain NAS.

I also believe that the timing of the partnership could not have been worse. The relationship began just as Dell's go-go years were taking a pause. Dell's priorities probably changed as a result, trying to make the numbers quarter-to-quarter, rather than taking on new growth markets.

I doubt that selling filers was a high priority to Michael, as many had hoped it would be.
