Dear Elmer:

The P4 has not been released but Intel did supply a benchmark with MPEG compression at the IDF. So your statement is false just recently. The same was true at all previous IDFs as well. Those benches that a new chip succeeds at outruning other Intel chips (and by implication other chips) are touted by Intel at these forums. When they do not look as good, Intel almost never publishes them. These they leave to others. All of these others have stated that P4 does not work well for those types like Winstone, Content Creation, Winbench, etc. These same others also state that the quality of the compilers for Itanium is not there yet (the absense of SPEC scores is enlightening). The only bench Intel has put out used hand coding (read assembly) (yet another case of a bench released before the release of the CPU).
