I think you should look at it from the beginning of the year or some other period, just looking at the last two weeks doesn't really give you the proper picture of the horrible performance of LU versus its peers.

"This is a sector punishment, not at all just LU."

You're absolutely correct! There seems to be a lot of posters on this thread that aren't looking at the sector or the overall market. The market is going down. Most funds are showing no gains for the year except specialty funds.

Since that is what I see concerning the market at the moment...then how can a company like LUCENT whose had so much bad press hold up under the psychology to sell?

The way I saw it, it held on as long as it could through the period between Monday, September 11 - Friday, September 15. The market was going down all that time.

The following week on Monday, September 18 the "stuff" really started hitting the fan as funds started selling for their so called "window dressing." Look at the shares traded for a lot of stocks starting on that day.

I saw somewhere in USA Today where some "expert" said that the funds will be cleaning out poor performing stocks until late in October before they have satisfied themselves. So what does that mean?

Does this slide in a lot of stocks just keep going. People who buy into the funds have no say in things like that. Of course everyone can always liquidate.

If you're a person with a so called "large holding" that you've been holding for some time now, this is pure pain. I got back in with a position at 41 and I can tell you that this stock is bothering the h*ll out of me now.
