Let me clarify- the umc and charter portion of the investments that come attached with the wafer allocations have to stay that way anyway. those shares cannot be sold to finance other investments, so they could be sold as a unit.
The reddys would only incure a tax liability as any other shareholders would- the shares would be distributed on a tax free basis to the shareholders and then the new company would be sold and the shareholder would incure long term capital gains on the transaction. at least that is what would make sense to me.
