well, we were talking US and Europe to a lesser degree. The third world can resist the future for a longer time. Besides, no one said the likes of AT&T el at couldn't make a profit, just that the internet would continue to drive LD rates toward zero necessitating a new model for AT&T et al to profit. Middlemen, of course, will lose hugely. That's the iron rule of the internet.
