During Networld + Interop's recent interoperability test Alcatel successfully interoperated both constraint based routed-label distribution protocol (CR-LDP) and resource reservation protocol with traffic engineering (RSVP-TE) on its highly regarded 7670 RSP. Achieving full MPLS interoperability marks a key milestone in the aggressive roll-out of Alcatel's multiprotocol core networking platform. Achieving it before anyone else demonstrates Alcatel's leadership position in the highly competitive core market. "We're excited to find a vendor that can glue together RSVP and CR-LDP networks and demonstrate full MPLS capability on a real world implementation core platform," says Bill Jensen, senior network engineer from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and N+I Interoperability Lab MPLS Area Team Lead. "Successful interoperability, as demonstrated by Alcatel in our multi-vendor test, is critical to the wide-spread adoption of the MPLS standard. We're pleased that Alcatel and the vendor community is working toward a common goal of multi-vendor MPLS interoperability to advance the state of networking today." The Alcatel 7670 RSP successfully demonstrated CR-LDP and RSVP-TE all in accordance with the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) specifications. "Demonstrating both protocols on a core platform ahead of everyone else really proves our commitment to the standard and our leadership position in the core market," says Adam Twarog, director of marketing and business development for Alcatel's Core Data business unit. "We're pleased to reach this technology milestone in the roll-out of one of our flagship products. MPLS capability is critical to our customers and helps to ensure they'll remain competitive in today's marketplace. Alcatel supports wide-spread MPLS multi-vendor interoperability and we applaud the efforts of Networld + Interop in providing a forum to test our implementations." About the Alcatel 7670 The latest addition to Alcatel's family of products and services, the 7670 RSP is a next generation multiprotocol platform that integrates best-of-class asynchronous transfer mode (ATM), multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) and Internet protocol (IP) on the same platform. The Alcatel 7670 RSP scales to 450Gb/s and provides carriers with a fully managed solution for today's voice and data applications that can grow to meet the requirements for the backbone of the next generation network.
