US DVD player sales up 281.9% in the latest week. It's starting to show up in VHS player sales.................

Vital Statistics - 9/26/2000
According to VideoScan’s First Alert Reporting Retailers, for the week ending Sept. 17th, DVD-Video sales were 879,000, slightly down from last week’s 999,000, but still remaining above par. Year-to-date sales are lingering just below the 30 million mark at 29,458,000!

DVD player sales are spectacular. According to statistics released by the Consumer Electronics Association, for the week ending Sept. 15, 2000, 149,675 DVD players units were shipped to dealers, up 281.9 percent over this week in 1999 and a significant increase from last week’s sales of 69,747. Month-to-date player sales are 455,602, up 286.7 percent over September 1999 sales and year-to-date sales are 4,251,611, a 113.7 percent increase over 1999 sales.

VCR sales, on the other hand, totaled only 299,112 for the week, down (-24.5) percent from this week’s sales last year. Month-to-date sales are 887,247, down (-1.4) percent and year-to-date sales are 14,394,387, up only 4.8 percent over 1999 sales.

Projection TV sales are also down for the week at 24,046, a (-14.7) percent decrease from last year’s sales during this week. Month-to-date sales are 77,442, up 2.7 percent, and year-to-date sales are 847,959, up 16.9 percent over 1999 sales.
