My take on the Nortel price action is that someone in the sector is going to warn soon (LU is the best bet) and the institutions are selling off Nortel and others to protect themselves from the fall out. If Nortel gets below 60 it's a steal!

I think it has more to do with what David Faber on CNBC just said. Some analyst did a review of 60 companies spending in the future. The report gets out tomorrow. It is of course expected to be negative (per Faber).
Maybe this is what we really need--one more negative report before the stock can move higher. As we get closer to NT's earnings, I bet some of the negative people are going to be changing their tunes. That will be fun.
They love to play the negative stories during periods that are well before earnings date.

I am betting NT moves higher tomorrow. We just needed one negative report. I am actually glad it is happening. As we get closer to earnings, we are going to get more input from the positive analysts. For now, it is the bearish ones to take the limelight.

I agree it is a steal --right now!

Good Luck

<edited>Hi mtnlady - I am bullish on NT, but FWIW, if NT fell below 60, it also violated the 200 dma, it would not be pleasant. While large cap stocks are less likely to follow the 200 dma [or other moving averages] to the penny, b/c of their size, still, it gives another excuse.

Ultimately, it is a matter of faith and prudence. In the scheme of things, a dollar above 60 and a dollar below 60 are quite meaningless. IMHO.

Since the whole sector is going to the dogs, except for some FO specialty shops, my guess is that the window dressers want to present a more conservative portfolio to the mutual fund shareholders, just to show the latter how smart they are in avoiding the recent carnage

best, Bosco
