I was not aware that 50 companies licensed LDT. Can you name a few, besides API? I couldn't find a list of licensees on AMD's web site.

By the way, any licensees of LDT would use it exactly in the way AMD intended, as a glue for scalable chipset components in high-end servers. I suppose other uses are possible, but then again, that's like saying other uses are possible for the Athlon processor (like beverage coaster, hot plate to cook ramen noodles, etc.)
