Good day to own DSS, up one to 15 1/16 on good volume, 1.3m shares. The HDD/MXTR merger is good news, I think. The only questions for DSS are (1) will this crimp Snap in any way, as they will have to buy their drives from other vendors, or will it actually help them, and (2) how will Michael Brown handle the potential conflict of interest of being on the board of MXTR (who will continue to have MaxAttach NAS) and run DSS with Snap at the same time? It would have been nicer if somehow MaxAttach would have gone to QNTM, or been dissolved, but I guess it would be silly to expect that.

The fact that DSS will become QNTM again seems to mitigate against the notion that DSS is up for sale--if they were, why bother with the name change and all the hassle that that entails? The upcoming report and CC will be important, as we will get a public look at how SDLT is faring, and what kinds of revenue/unit expectations we can form for the next quarter or two. I wouldn't expect that much unless they say that they will give a free upgrade to the backward compatible version when it comes out, hopefully by Dec or Jan sometime. If they do give a free upgrade option (or at least a minimal expense shipping/intallation upgrade option), it would be an indication that that they are pretty confident that it will come out soon, IMO.

But as usual, we'll have to wait and see.
