The point isn't the quantity of money grabbed. It's how the money will do the most good. What you ignored from her statements and in my comments was the implication that government largesse is ok because the middle class is more the beneficiary than they would otherwise be when government decides. The point is who is deciding what funds go to where.

In simple dollar terms government choices in spending are inefficient in comparison to the choices of those from whom the money is taken. Now I understand that you as a doctor have a prurient interest to preserve, just like she has an emotional interest to protect, the perpetuation of this system of inefficiency. But don't be fooled by your misperceived self interest into believing that there is any advantage in this arrangement. It's merely convenient because it gives you enough appearances so that you can seem to be doing good, and that always emboldens one to believe that what one is doing is right.
