You might want to look at the web site for the
Home Phone Line Networking Alliance:

homepna.org

AS you will see home networks use phone lines
using a very high part of the spectrum not used
by voice or DSL services. The protocol is just
Ethernet. Note that BRCM has already a presence
in this space, so success is not guaranteed
for CNXT's new chip.
