Ironically, the UltraSparc III release might have been rushed due to Itanium's imminent (pilot) release next month.

And I thought Itanium was supposed to be the poster child for schedules that constantly slip.

Deadlines for servers keep slipping into the distant future."

They sure made a big HOOPLA of an announcement today.

However, SUN did fess up that their UltraSparc IV and V CPUs have now slipped into late 2001 and late 2002, respectively.

Of course these have been "respec'ed" to about 230,000 GHz !
