As I've been saying, the pricing action they have taken on boxes via their website from the start of the quarter is something they have not done for as long as I can remember. Wouldn't it be ironic if after all the 'tough talk' Mikey has been spewing lately that they were having a 'server share' problem <ggg>.

Regards,
John

RD: We are getting close to the price war days. The higher end poweredge is reduced by 30% only. If there is a margin erosion I would expect that it is only minor. I don't think we can translate price cuts to margin erosion one to one.
Overall I still expect Dell to make .25 each of the remaining quarters. I don't think the market will like to sit at 33 p/e for Dell.
I will be somewhat skeptical on Dell's statements, but not totally pessimistic about it.

bob..."component cost reductions"

the logic appears to be "when component costs rise, profit margins shrink as finished goods price cannot increase due to competitive market"..... "when component costs drop, finished goods price decrease to gain market share"

end result does not appear to be growing margins on finished goods...

to take market share via price reductions is not the best business model....easy to lower price, difficult to increase, especially in the corporate sector.

dell has lost a great deal of credibility with recent statements, and the market has reflected same. stock still in a downward spiral...failed to rally....probability of under 30 increasing.

appears the "boat was loaded" so much with "dell on sale" buying opportunities, that it sunk....

cpq/dell stock price close to parity...not too long ago the staunch dell supporters considered this impossible....

dell the only stock in the pc sector that is setting new lows........i wonder why????

perception of dell as a box maker / efficient assembler appears to be reinforced.....

good company, great product.....but not yet "beyond the box"...

good luck...ed a.
