But since I'm an investor, my real concern is what's best for shareholders, and as I've tried to point out, keeping the company as one humongous monolith isn't in the shareholders best interests.

I agree whole heartily here Art. It's my belief that it is not a matter of if it happens, but who the Surgeon will be during such separation, as well as when. In any event, my view is it should be decided internally and executed internally, _only_ as Microsoft sees fit to do so, just as well as when.
