Craig, you are absolutely right about Kodak once being an R&D powerhouse. But, beginning in the 1980's, Kodak began a series of cutbacks to enhance the bottom line. These cutbacks included early retirement programs, aimed mostly at their long term R&D staff. Unfortunately, they cut more R&D than administrative staff and would have been much better off the other way around.
