SDRAM price drops only signify a trend on a broader
level. They, as you state, don't account for a
large portion of the reduction.

But also notice that memory does not scale linearly
in price as you move up the config ladder. Density
also comes at a premium.

I think what you will find is that all the hardware
just does not account for more than 50% of the server
price to begin with (if that much). The premiums are
in the design, scalability, SW and support just to
name a few.

My question is, these price cuts look to be limited to
certain configs. The average overall looks to be about
25-30%. Does these type of cuts occur at >900Mhz
with 4-5-6GB etc? It may only be 10-15% in these
configs. If that's the case, a few of these systems
may be loss leaders used for upsale traps.
