Thread,

Some comments to recent posts:

1. The semi-equip forecast was ~70% growth for 2000, ~30% growth for 2001, and ~5-10% growth for 2002. Use these to forecast EPS and PE for individual stocks. I think there are bargains in semi-equips, now, but the forecast says not great bargains.

2. AMAT to grow to $20B via mask making and flat panel displays. This is curious. AMAT's purchase of ETEC gave them an 80-100% market share in mask making tools. ETEC will grow at a rapid rate, but its contribution will not be that significant. If AMAT moves to produce masks in addition to the tools, they will be competing with their customers and will be subject to anti-trust problems. I think the news release was unintended and AMAT needs to publicly clarify what comes across as more negative than it probably should be.
