During the coming quarters we are heading to consistent high growth period for Microsoft in my opinion, fueled by by the adoption of enterprise software, terrific growth in consumer ecommerce(MSN), corporate desktop upgrade cycle, etc..

In addition
#1. CFO gave no warning for this Q. He gave a rosy outlook on 9/18 at a conference. Balmer said server s/w selling superwell and desktop growing and not shrinking

#2. Klien has resigned. Reno is leaving. Case is in home court. Microsoft will ask appealleate court to completely overturn everything including finding of fact. The whole case started with the integration of IE to WIndows which appeals court previously ordered to be OK. Still Klein and TPJ disagreed with appeals court. The whole finding of fact and the verdict will be completely overturned.

#3. Microsoft is cheap. Excellent reward/risk ratio. The 6 Billion biz growing at 40 - 50% rate should command 110 PE like CSCO, ORCL, SUNW. The 16B growing at 18% should command 55 PE like GE. Net the stock deserves 60 - 70 PE.
At 30 PE, it is 50% discounted.

Be patient, good times are ahead for longs.

Why do you think all these folks are joining Microsoft?

Who knows Johnd? Maybe yesterdays announcement of restructuring the way it reports its financial results is just early maneuvering for multiple self-constructed entities in the future? Lots of questions, I'm still trying to piece together. This one could easily fit.

Respectfully,
Thunder

It's not nice to raid your customers for talented employees, IMHO.
