I was asking for an example of a large scale modern society where these problems are taken care of without any government intervention. If what you say is possible, then there should be a modern day example of it actually working, don't you think?

You already know the answer to these questions, don't you? The answer to the first question is "none", unless you count indigenous cultures like Amazon Indians, and you've excluded them by requiring "large scale modern" examples. The answer to the second question is "no."

In the 19th century, people in the South didn't think they could survive economically without slaves, but they did. And not so very long ago, women were not allowed to vote, or to work outside the home, much less become doctors or lawyers, but that changed, too. Just because you can't imagine something, that doesn't make it impossible or wrong.
