My guess (also based on a minimum of evidence) is that some funds are dumping and some are buying. I believe that this is the battle that is occurring, not a battle between MSFT and funds.

MSFT is probably buying back stock, but it should have a minimal effect on the trading. There are SEC rules regarding how many shares can be purchased at once (ie. 10% of daily volume and not within 1/2 hour of the open or close of trading).
