Andreas,

Charles seems to have inside sources at Intel continuously feeding him information,(or misinformation) about P4. Last year Willy was a disaster, and this year Willy is the hot new CPU.

<I think there will be a die shrink before P4 gets to 2G because of the power consumption in the 100 Watts range otherwise. But I don't expect it as early as you. Why do you think we will see it already in Q1?>

There are two rumored versions of P4 at .18 micron. The current version and die size is one of these two. The other uses .18 but some other process methods such as local interconnect and process changes to reduce the capacitance and die size. This second .18 micron version of P4 is likely what Charles R is expecting in Q1 2001. This alternative version requires less power and is hoped to hit 2 GHz according to the rumors. I have no direct knowledge other than what I have read on the internet.
