John,

I would buy everything you said 'bout October, except for one unfortunately quirky little fact: tax-loss selling by mutual funds that has to be completed by October 31st per the IRS. And this year could see some pretty robust selling of losers. And, most funds sell some of their winners too to offset losses and reduce cap gains distributions to investors.

It gets worse: most investors have figured out not to invest in October to prevent getting stuck with cap gains of the fund, so mutual fund inflows slow down next month too, leading to less liquidity to buy stocks and prop them up.

The above are some of the self-fulfilling contributing factors that have led to market crashes in October in the past.

Still hope that you are right though, as I'm net long this lousy market!

Best Wishes,

Sam

JRI, it's been a while and I wanted to check and see how things were going. I'm practically out of all old tech now and am focused in fibre optics and networking, principally GLW, NT, JDSU and JNPR plus a smattering of others such as BRCD, CIEN, SCMR, VRSN, EXTR, AVNX, etc. I'm looking for a rally to the 4200 on the Naz by mid October, a subsequent pullback and a finishing kick that should take us to 4500 by year end. We may even get a rally into the new year but I'll be divesting in order to buy my new toy - a boat.I'll call you when I'm back down. Regards, Gabriel
