Should we ask about any danger involved with the (gag- gag) "service" to this nation by Gore?

David... Obviously you're not familiar with the reserves..

I've known quite a few reservists who traveled across the country to fulfill their service.. In fact, the military has this specialized units they used to call "MISTI" units, which as I recall permitted people to catch military flights to attend drills..

But additionally, there are MANY reservists who attend school in other states, yet remain affiliated with their original units. They are able to do this by performing their drills with an associated unit in the state in which they are located.

Now with Bush... since he was a pilot, the easiest way of determining this would be to assess if he accrued the requisite number of flight hours necessary to maintain him on flight status.

Btw, the fact that Bush missed a deployment on operation "golden flow" (as we used to call it.. :) is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON to claim that he deliberately avoided such a test. (nor does it say that he didn't).

And I see in that article that Bush's commanding officers in Houston claimed they couldn't "rate" him for the previous 12 months because he wasn't in Houston... Well, they wouldn't rate him on his OER if he were attached to the Alabama unit..

Now as for Turnipseed, I would like to see more evidence such as leave and earnings statements that claim that Bush never reported, nor was paid for any drill performances.

The easiest way to resolve this whole debate would be to look at both his LESs and Flight Operations records for the period. During my military experience, both active and reserve, I knew of MANY, MANY, cases where officers and/or pilots were not able to attend the normally scheduled drill, but came in at a different period of time to make that drill up.

I did this MANY TIMES myself... and I'm sure there were times my company or battalion commander hadn't a clue whether I was there or not.

I also knew of many folks who were grounded, not promoted, missed important training schools, etc, etc... because they missed a required physical or physical fitness test.

Bottom line... they are dancing around the point....

Check out Ft. Ben Harrison and file an FOI for Bush's pay records. They will detail the dates and periods of training that he attended.

Personally, I really don't care one way or another... Compared to Gore's truncated 4 month stint as a sheltered was correspondent, the fact that Bush actually completed flight school and flew a complex piece of machinery, far exceeds Gore's military record..

Regards,

Ron
