Yougang, Re: Hector Ruiz's take over of AMD has officially begun.

I like this news: Looks like Hector is here to stay. I think this is a departure on good terms with Barton since he's staying for a while at AMD and is praised in the press release. Does anyone know how old he is? (maybe retiring)

Who is Fran Barton?

www1.amd.com

SUNNYVALE, CA--September 10, 1998-- AMD today announced that Fran Barton has been
named senior vice president and chief financial officer. Barton succeeds Marvin Burkett, former
CFO who left AMD in March of this year. Barton will report directly to W. J. Sanders III, chairman
of the board and chief executive officer.

Barton has extensive experience in both the computer industry and corporate financial
management. He joins AMD from Amdahl Corporation, where he served as vice president and
chief financial officer. Prior to joining Amdahl, he spent 22 years with Digital Equipment
Corporation, where his most recent position was vice president and chief financial officer of the
Personal Computer Business Unit. Barton holds a master's degree in finance form Northeastern
University as well as a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic
Institute.

Maybe he is ready to retire.
